Hakadosh Records are a London based record label who commissioned me to create their brand identity from the ground up. The brief was to create something with strong visual appeal, dripping with style – which would appeal to a young, modern audience. The brand had to have serious “swag”.
After extensive industry-specific research, we began exploring a wide range of concepts, typefaces and ways to visually communicate the essence of the brand. While I’ll occasionally scribble on paper, I much prefer to create my digital sketches on an iPad or even straight into Adobe Illustrator using my graphics tablet – I’ve found this enables me to explore countless iterations at a speed that just wouldn’t be possible on a notepad.
The end results are a bold, stylish brand that uses visual effects to create a “rich version” of the logo, which will feature prominently on motion graphics throughout the website. We wanted to use strong, unique typefaces which would really draw the right kind of attention and sit nicely on plain backgrounds as well as imagery.
Finally we wanted to specific a preference for printing materials – and fell in love with the look of silver foil on black kraft paper.
I’ve included some of the initial digital sketches, concepts, the finished logo, brand guidelines and even finished business cards – so you can get a real overview of the journey and the brand we created as a whole.
