Johnny Childs Acupuncture – Brand Identity Design

It was a real pleasure to work with renowned acupuncturist Johnny Childs on the refresh of his brand identity. Johnny has been featured in numerous publications, from Tatler to Women’s Health, so one of the key objectives was to create an identity that better reflects this level of recognition and acclaim.

The refresh centred around a minimalist logo, using a typeface that combines the contrasting stroke weights of traditional Didone styles with the clean structure of a modern sans serif. The result is something elegant, editorial and understated. Rather than leaning into clichés or literal depictions of needles, a simple keyline within both the logo and submark offers a subtle nod to the tools Johnny uses with precision and care.

The wider aesthetic was designed to align more closely with high-end medical and lifestyle brands, rather than generic wellness. The colour palette — Sage, Charcoal, Porcelain Bone, Soft Limestone, Silver Ash and Crisp Gallery White — creates a versatile but cohesive system, carefully chosen to convey calm, trust and quiet authority.

Overall, the identity embodies a sense of quiet luxury: refined, understated and intentionally restrained. It whispers rather than shouts, reflecting the same atmosphere Johnny creates for his discerning clientele. While the logo itself is deliberately simple, the wider identity adds richness through a supporting system of subtle patterns, textures and background imagery.

Opportunity

Johnny Childs required a refined brand identity that better reflects the level of recognition and acclaim he has earned — from features in Tatler to Women’s Health — while presenting his practice with the same calm authority and discretion experienced by his clients.

Objectives

  • Create a minimalist, editorial identity that feels elevated, modern and highly considered.
  • Position the brand closer to high-end medical and lifestyle spaces, while retaining warmth and trust.
  • Introduce subtle visual cues that reference Johnny’s expertise without relying on literal wellness symbolism.
  • Build a wider identity system with enough depth and flexibility to extend across print, digital and environmental touchpoints.

Insight & Strategy

The identity needed to communicate precision, calm and quiet confidence in equal measure. Rather than overstate the therapeutic nature of the work, the strategy focused on restraint: an elegant typographic core, a sophisticated neutral palette, and small, intentional details that reward closer attention. This created a brand world that feels premium and composed, closely aligned with the experience Johnny offers his discerning clientele.
